Lookback at my 2011
Well, it's just a few days before the start of a brand new year! So this is the best time to sit down and start thinking about all the things that happened during this year. Everything, from achievements to laughter to losses, this the best time to reflect on all those things.
Well, here's the list of major events for 2011 and my thoughts on them.
Well, here's the list of major events for 2011 and my thoughts on them.
Asia Qualifiers 2011
Deck used: Whirlwind BF
For this qualifier, we had to go through a tough fight of 7 swiss rounds. Adding to the fact that everyone woke up quite early for registration, you can be sure that all of us had a tough time. I only managed to get a subpar score of 4-3, winning all 3 matches again Six Samurais and losing 3 mirror matches. Needless to say, wasn't really proud of my performance, but i felt that i did my best and I was very comfortable with playing Whirlwind BF at that time.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Open Series #2 (Hosted by Cardmasters)
Deck used: Graveyard BF
Deck used: Graveyard BF
I was really proud of myself when i actually won this event. Although this wasn't an official event, it was still considered quite a big one, with almost 50 participants and a PS3 up for grabs. Since this event was using the March Banlist (The asia qualifier was still using the old banlist), it was difficult for everyone to choose what type of decks to pilot for the fresh and new format. Regardless, I was able to climb all the way to the top and get myself my very first 1st place for a big event!
Singapore Worlds Qualifier 2011
Deck used: Six Samurai
Deck used: Six Samurai
Wasn't really planning on using Six Samurai, but I was playing with it for a few weeks by then and it was really growing on me. I was playing the Japanese build, which focused on control and making of use Royal Oppression. Sad to say, i scrubbed with a miserable score of 1-4 for the final standings.
Deck used: Agent Angels
For this qualifier, there were actually 4 rounds of Pre-Qualifiers that allowed direct seeding into Top 8 for the main event. My team, consisting of Johann (awesomehazelnuts), Vishal (avengingknight) and myself took part and won the very first qualifier! So, we were directly brought forward to Top 8 for the main event. Sad to say, we lost on the actual day during Top 8 to the eventual runner-up for the entire event. Still, I believed that we tried our best and we can only hope for the better next year, if 2012 isn't the end of the world :)
Top Shop of Asia: Singapore Qualifers
Deck used: T.G. Agents
Deck used: T.G. Agents
This, hands-down, had to be the biggest highlight of my entire year! It was a brand new official event whereby local card shops choose their representatives to fight it out to become Asia's number 1 card shop. I was representing Thousand Taste Trading and i managed to clinch 1st place after the dust cleared.
I had to face many strong opponents along the way, such as Vishal, my teammate for Asia Plus and Jeff, agreed by majority as the strongest player in Singapore. As a player, achievements were of much importance to me. Hence, being the very first official event i topped ever since i started playing competitively in 2009, it was really a huge accomplishment for me.
I then proceeded to travel to Taiwan for the Asia Plus Championships, together with William, Nian Jie, Daniel, Anthony and DS, accompanied by the distributor. Sad to say, I scrubbed badly at the main event. However, i had much fun and it was all very valuable experience.
So, that's the sum-up of my year for 2011. Here's hoping that 2012 will be an even better year for me! Especially since the Asia Championships 2012 will be held in Singapore!
Hope 2012 will be great for everyone! Happy New Year!

Tournament Report @ Ani-Play (26/12)
Deck used: Inzecters
Format: Swiss of 4 Rounds. Cut to Top 8.
Round 1: VS Vishal (WWBF)
OO
Game 1: Controlled with Raioh
Game 2: Imba hand with Damsel + Gigamantis for combowhoring.
Round 2: VS Poh Seng (GK)
XX
Game 1: Forgot how i died.
Game 2: Greedy and used Storm without opening Trap Stun first. Died to Sin Cyber End
Round 3: VS Hong Rui (Hero Beat) *SHARED*
XX
Game 1: Super Poly too strong.
Game 2: Same thing, except he's backrow killed me while i didn't draw any sided stuff.
Round 4: VS Alvin PUTRA (Hero Beat)
XOX
Game 1: Died to Raioh beat with my imba hand of 2 damsels, 2 pot and some unimportant stuff
Game 2: Rush him with Damsel and other good stuff
Game 3: Top deck Miracle + Honest sealed my fate.
Alvin gave me the win since i was sharing with Hong Rui, as i wanted to pull his score up.
Results : 1-3
Bad sidedeck choice of Trap Stun over Royal Decree costed me in this tournament. Besides that, I think most of my plays were correct. Still quite confused about some rulings regarding Inzecters so need to familiarize with them more if i wish to continue playing them.
Anyways, had 1 round of pack war after that and i won myself 4 out of 6 foils in the box lol.
Everytime i go to Kit's Shop, always go home with good stuff even though i scrub.

Mini Tournament Report @ Ani-Play (23/12)
Deck used: Inzecter
Format: Swiss of 3 Rounds. Cut to Top 8
Round 1: VS Banana (Dark World)
OO
Game 1: Raioh controlled before i used Damsel + Gigamantis to rush him.
Game 2: Raioh + Dimensional Fissure too strong!!
Round 2: VS Sherwyn (Zombie Plant)
XOX
Game 1: Ate Trishula + other good stuff.
Game 2: Rush him with Damsel + Gigamantis + Heart of Clear Water
Game 3: Slatemate until he removed all 3 Hornets with Chain D.
Round 3: VS Sunny (Six Samurai)
XOX
Game 1: Shien + Kizan + Mass backrow. Couldn't do anything, not to mention eating 1x Tori
Game 2: Slowly grinded with Damsel and Centipede.
Game 3: Side deck error of not puting in Trap Stun costed me the game.
Result: 1-2 (12th/20)
Got a lucky draw pack of PTDN and pulled Dark Armed. Proceeded to get some good stuff from others. Looks like the Top Shop win really used up all the luck i had for the entire year, lololol.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all readers!!!
Thank you for all of your continual support (even though this blog is dead most of the time)

Reflection after Asia Plus
Sorry that there will not be any blog post about my trip to Taiwan, since DS has already uploaded the whole story, lol.
Basically, it was a really good experience for me, meeting players from all parts of Asia. I felt kind of bad for scrubbing so badly during my event, since i was pretty confident of myself to get into at least Top 4. Nevertheless, I had a lot of fun during this trip, almost like the holiday which i deserved from all the school work and exams i had :)
This just made me more fired up for the next coming event, which is Asia 2012. So for now, its going to be schoolwork and more locals.

Off to Asia Plus tomorrow!
Typing this post out before i head out to Changi Airport to ton all the way until 5am, lol.
Pretty much settled on the decks that i will be winning for both the "Challenge the Champ" section and the actual tournament. Props to Andrew and Lauren for knocking some sense into me.
It's going to be one heck of a experience for me, since its my first time representing Singapore for such a event. I'll try to post updates on each day (The whole trip is 4 days), provided that there is Wifi available at the hotel (Which there should be).
Overall, I'm pretty stressed out at the moment, thinking of all the tough opponents i'll be facing at Taiwan, especially Sam :(
Thanks to all who wished me good luck! I'll try my best to bring the trophy back to Singapore!
That's all for now!
Signing off (Going to Changi Airport..)

Format: 4 round swiss. Cut to Top 8
Round 1: David (Infernity)
XOO
Game 1: Ate all the Infernity stunts and just died.
Game 2: Veiler and friends helped to stall while i slowly beat him down.
Game 3: Time was called, with my LP higher. So i just made 2 Gantetsu and he scooped.
Round 2: Jess (Agent Angel)
XOO
Game 1: OTK failed and died to Hyperion + more stuff.
Game 2: Trishula + Hyperion + friends OTK.
Game 3: Leeching the Light for the win!
Round 3: Mango (Inzecter Wind-Up)
XOO
Game 1: Died to all the Inzecter + DAD
Game 2: Massive hatred against Inzecters.
Game 3: Control with double Warning + Chain Disappearance. Kycoo + 2 ball beatdown for game
Round 4: Akira (Inzecter)
OO
Game 1: Veil-ed his Summon Priest. Then Trishula + Hyperion and friends appeared!
Game 2: Almost the same thing as Game 1
4-0 (1st in Swiss. Proceed to Top 8)
Top 8: Ying Jun (TG Agents)
OXX
Game 1: Rushed him with Trishula and Venus.
Game 2: He rush me back.
Game 3: Controlled early game, but died to Core Destroyer + Catastor. 100% Despair.
Bottom 4: Akira (Inzecter)
XOO
Game 1: No agents. Keep stalling with TG's but soon lost.
Game 2: Veil-ed his Priest 2 times, resulting in alot of advantage.
Game 3: Beatdown with Warwolf, Gantetsu and Striker, since his backrow were all not useful in that situation.
Shared with Vishal later on.
Result : 5th/6th (Starter Deck 2011)
Note to self: Never challenge the Full Win Curse ever again...
Have to admit that the new build i'm playing is really good against Inzecter, was just eating them here and there. Quite satisfied with today's performance, although i didn't win the Lavalval Chain..
Oh well, time to look forward to Taiwan, since i can't go locals next week due to exams...
